Project 6 - Progress Review #1

  1. Hello, Lydia! You chose an interesting subject. I believe it's about the gardener and her hard work on this garden, yes? I really like your use of green. It is in every photo and considering that it's a garden setting, that's important. I also really like that every photo includes the subject, as she is vital to this garden. Any photos without her in them in some way would feel out of place.

Is she just a flower (and herb, I'm guessing?) gardener? If not, I'd like to see more variety there. Out of these photos, your last one feels out of place. The other photos have lots of green and some muted colors and then BAM, color in the last photo. So I think it would be good to include vibrant colors throughout the series or keep the focus on similar colors like in your first five.

Also, the woman is taking up a whole lot of space in your third photograph, but she is out of focus. Considering she is your main subject here, I would focus on her rather than the plants.

Overall, you have some really great photos! I'd like a little bit more of the garden, some variety. You have an awesome start, I'm looking forward to seeing your finished product.

  2. Hi Lydia. I like your choice of subject and can tell it's about a gardener. From the sequencing, I'm not sure if it specific to an activity of planting or more focused on your subject. Either way, it does portray the subject enjoying the gardening experience. The first photo frames the subjects hands holding some tools in preparation for planting something it appears. As this transitions to the second shot of the subject sitting by the flower bed, I'm left wondering who is the subject. I think this portrays a sense of mystery which you reveal nicely in the third shot.

I like the perspective of the second shot, but you might try to expand the frame to show a bit more of the flower bed. I like the use of color in the final shot and think incorporating additional flowers with color in the other shots would enhance their appeal. I think the third photo could be enhanced by keeping the focus on the woman rather than the flowers. She is framed nicely and seems to be enjoying herself. I think keeping her in the plan of focus would add to the photo.
